Often we are unaware of how we teach and think we are catering for all our tamariki.

All children are not the same and just as we would not put a child who has hearing difficulties at the back of the room the same can be said for catering for our Maori tamariki.

By understanding the part played by Pakaha ancestors and the effect they had on our tupuna a teacher can become more aware of why Maori children struggle and why it is hard to get parents into classes.

Many children have four generations of ancestors who have had bad experiences with what is a Pakeha education system. The sooner all schools begin teaching to all their students the better.

Break the cycle.
